Sermon Overview
This sermon continues Psalms That Shape Us: Encountering God Shapes Ordinary Life through David’s familiar but deeply personal portrait of God as Shepherd. Psalm 23 is more than a passage for funerals; it gives language for everyday life, including rest, anxiety, difficult decisions, suffering, provision, and the desire to know that we are not alone.
David draws the image from his own ordinary work caring for sheep. He recognizes that what he was to his sheep, the Lord is to him—only perfectly. The sheep have what they need not because they can navigate wisely on their own, but because the Shepherd knows, leads, protects, and stays with them.
